St Annes was built to order: the St Anne's on the Sea Land and Building Company leased the land from the Clifton estate of Lytham Hall in December 1874, and the foundation stone was laid at the St Anne's Hotel the following March. Ansdell was already forming around its 1872 station; Fairhaven followed from 1892. The result is large late-Victorian and Edwardian villas along Clifton Drive and the Fairhaven avenues, some now divided into flats.
